Creativity and Confidence in Action

In Bolivia, 12-year-old Neymar and his little brother, 7-year-old James are discovering just how transformative learning can be. They spend their days gardening, baking, crafting, playing chess, and exploring the arts. They also receive nourishing meals–fuel for both body and mind.

“It has changed a lot for me because they teach us different things, they can help us a lot, and because they are fun,” says Neymar.

Their mother, Rocio, has noticed the changes too. She shared that since joining the program they have become “more responsible, active, and they develop more in their way of speaking, their creativity. They are happy.”

The program is led by Tatiana, the manager of the educational program at the Center. With her expertise in holistic, adaptable learning methods, including Pedagogy 3000, she supports hundreds of children to thrive. As Tatiana notes, “All those smiles, that affection that our children express, is also thanks to you.”

Learning Rooted in Culture and Tradition

Biigtigong Nishnaabeg First Nation Planting

In Biigtigong Nishnaabeg First Nation along the north shore of Lake Superior, children are exploring the hands-on wonder of planting seedlings. Each child received a seedling kit carefully prepared by Alexis, the community’s Food Security Initiatives Coordinator. Together, they placed the young plants in the ground, learning not only how to tend them, but how patience and care help things grow.

Education here is also about connection to culture. Children spend time with elders who pass along traditional knowledge, such as preparing moose pie. These intergenerational experiences bring teachings to life, weaving together food, identity, and belonging.

For many students, it is the first time they’ve participated in planting for the community garden or cooking alongside an elder–moments that build both confidence and pride in traditions.

Building Bridges to Learning

In a rural community in Ethiopia’s Southwest Shewa Zone, families and local leaders saw opportunities to strengthen both education and livelihoods. Seasonal rains affected daily routines. As a result, moving livestock between fields could be difficult, and children’s walks to school required extra care. If the rain came while they were in class, students had to wait until the waters receded to set off for home—missing meals, crossing dark fields, and exposed to numerous dangers.

To address this, community members came together in small, facilitated groups supported by Kinvia and our local partners. Through these conversations, they developed practical action plans that led to improving roads and the construction of a new bridge.

Today, children have a more reliable and safer path to their classrooms–an achievement that reflects the determination of families and local leaders to prioritize education.

Nurturing the Leaders of Tomorrow

Education is about curiosity, creativity, and confidence. Education is a key pillar of sustainable food systems. Whether it’s through arts programs in Bolivia, seedling kits in Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, or community-led infrastructure in Ethiopia, learning is strengthening the leaders of tomorrow.

And with every new lesson, every tradition passed down, and every bridge built, communities are strengthening food security and growing a brighter future for the next generation.
