How Your Ongoing Support Makes a Difference

Sifen is filled with hope and dreaming big thanks to quality education.

At the young age of six, Sifen is full of life and determination and her journey of hope began with your support.

In her community in Ethiopia, she is thriving at an early childhood education centre, a place where she learns, plays, and receives nutritious meals every day. For children like Sifen, these meals mean more than just nourishment—they give her the energy to embrace learning with enthusiasm.

Gemechu is the education supervisor for the district, and he works to ensure that access to quality education is one of the shared values of the community. He remembers how food insecurity, inadequate facilities, and limited resources hindered children’s learning experiences.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, new early childhood education centres are equipped with safe bathroom facilities, teaching aids, and nutritious school meals and are transforming education for more than 500 students across four schools in the district. This is the foundation that will allow children like Sifen to pursue their dreams and give back to their community one day.

Marion no longer has to choose between going to school and having healthy meals.

In Uganda, seven-year-old Marion’s future was at risk when her father, Francis, faced an impossible choice: feed his family or pay her school fees. As a fisherman, Francis struggled to make ends meet, fearing Marion might never return to school.

Thanks to donor support, Marion’s story changed. Francis joined a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA), learned to grow a home garden, and ensured his children had nutritious meals and access to education. Today, Marion excels in school, and Francis proudly says, “Her performance has been amazing—I know she’ll have a bright future.”

Hope grows in abundance for Milenka and Lourdes.

Image

Lourdes is an innovative and entrepreneurial single mother to her four-year-old daughter, Milenka, who she is raising with a love of flowers and nourishing food in Bolivia.

Today, Lourdes can focus on teaching Milenka how to water their brimming, thriving garden. But, that was not always the case.

Late last year, Bolivia emerged from its hottest winter and worst drought on record. And recent forest fires affected Indigenous families the most. A renewed focus on water systems and climate-smart farming was urgently needed to manage the extreme heat and water scarcities that are likely to continue well into the future.

With the help of Kinvia’s climate-smart farming programs, Lourdes now grows both food to eat and flowers to sell using precision irrigation methods like a micro-sprinkler and drip irrigation. Lourdes is “able to save more water for irrigation” and grow more. She is thrilled to report that today, she no longer buys fresh produce for her family since she grows enough nourishing food for Milenka and her siblings.

More Than 35-Years Experience Nourishing Children

Kinvia is an international non-governmental organization with over 35 years of experience supporting children, youth, and their communities in overcoming systemic barriers to their rights to nutritious and culturally appropriate food.

Our core belief is that food and nourishment is a human right. To us, food is life.

We are here with communities who are building local, self-reliant, sustainable systems to provide food for their children, youth, and families across generations.

We work in solidarity with communities to impact all areas of nourishment at all stages of their lives, including income generation, education, gender equality, racial justice, and climate impacts.

As an award-winning, 5-star rated charity, we envision a world where children, youth, and their communities thrive, realizing their full potential.

At the core of our approach are people. We build partnerships to strengthen local capacity through knowledge sharing, mobilizing resources, and nurturing new ideas and solutions. We work alongside change-makers to actively question and change systems to improve the lives of children, youth, and families.
