Frequently Asked Questions
The most convenient and cost-effective way to make a monthly donation or sponsor a child is through pre-authorized payments from your chequing account or credit card. Pre-authorized payments make sponsorship easier by eliminating the need for postage, monthly cheques and reminder letters. Any way you choose to support us is an important decision that makes a vital difference in the life of a child.
Our child sponsors currently support our programs for children in Bolivia, Ethiopia, Ghana and Uganda.
Our Everyday Heroes monthly supporters enable us to respond to the needs of each of our countries of operation while keeping administration costs low. This consistent support is vital for the continuation of all our programs for children. In special situations, we are able to offer the ability to direct funds to a specific country. For further information, please contact a member of our Supporter Services team (contact details below).
In certain circumstances, you may visit your sponsored child in his/her community. These visits must be organized and approved in advance by Kinvia. Visits to your sponsored child and/or their community must always be accompanied by Kinvia and/or local partner representatives in keeping with our Child Protection Policy and child sponsorship guidelines. To learn more, contact a member of our Supporter Services team directly.
We are primarily funded through the generous donations of thousands of individual Canadians who share our mission to help reduce the impact of poverty on children. They donate in support of our programs through direct mail campaigns, telephone fundraising, child sponsorship and other monthly giving programs, online donations, project support and by conducting or attending public events. We also receive major individual, corporate and foundation support, and have received institutional grants from agencies including the Government of Canada through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade & Development.
Fiscal responsibility, accountability and good governance are important to us. As of June 2013, we became one of a very small group of non-profit agencies accredited under Imagine Canada’s Standards Program and we are proud to have earned the Voluntary Sector Reporting Award of Excellence for Transparency in Financial Reporting in 2012, 2013 and 2014 – becoming an “Exemplar” organization for 2014-2017. We are a long-time accredited charity by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance, and we are also members of the Canadian Council of International Cooperation and adhere to their Ethical Code.

A donor-advised fund is a charitable giving account that allows donors to set aside funds for charitable purposes and recommend grants to eligible charities.
If you already have a DAF, you can recommend a grant to Kinvia through your DAF provider.
A DAF can make charitable giving a simple and intentional part of your giving plans. Your recommendation can help Kinvia work alongside communities in Canada and internationally to support children, youth, and communities.
Whether your grant supports a specific area of work or helps Kinvia respond where support is needed most, your generosity helps strengthen community-led work for children and families.
