A simple shift to multigrain porridge and local ve A simple shift to multigrain porridge and local vegetables has made a world of difference for Aberash’s children in Ethiopia.

In communities like hers, nutrition education is showing families how to create balanced meals without breaking the bank. Around 227 households attended a Balanced Diet Awareness event in Ethiopia, and afterwards, women's REFLECT groups were organized to encourage further discussion with a focus on meal diversification.

"Before, we fed our children just to fill their stomachs. Now, we make sure every meal is nourishing," shared one mother.

By investing in good nutrition and balanced diet education, children have better health outcomes, and communities are healthier. Your generous support ensures these programs can continue. Through community-led training at the Manq’a Institute, supported by our community partners IPTK and CFTC supporters, these two budding chefs gained the skills and confidence to launch their careers in gastronomy.

"I've learned to do new things, I've had a little more experience, and wherever I go, I'll succeed," says Julia.

For Maribel, the experience was life-changing. Under the mentorship of Chef Daniela, she realized that cooking is not just about technique but about putting care and love into the work.

Your support makes this possible. By funding education and skills training, you help youth like Julia and Maribel build brighter, self-sufficient futures.

In Garden Hill First Nation, agriculture is more t In Garden Hill First Nation, agriculture is more than a tradition. The Meechim Farm and Wasagamack Community Garden are proving that local food production is key to both food security and climate resilience.

By growing fruits, vegetables, and raising chickens locally, these programs reduce reliance on external supply chains, cut carbon emissions, and create economic opportunities. They also pass on knowledge to the next generation, helping youth reconnect with traditional and sustainable farming practices.

As Farm Manager Rodney shared, the farm is opening children’s eyes to what’s possible when you grow your own food: "The kids were amazed they could eat peas straight from the plant. Soon, they were running through the fields, discovering food in its purest form."

Your support is strengthening community leadership and environment sustainability in Indigenous communities. Give today to support more possibilities by clicking the link in our bio.

"Before joining, I depended on my husband for everything," says Abigaba. "Now, I earn UGX 60,000 weekly from selling vegetables, and I can provide for my family." She learned to turn household waste into organic manure, boosting her yields while keeping her farm sustainable.

With CEDO’s support, women are not just feeding their families - they’re building stronger communities and breaking economic barriers. "My dream is to expand my farm and reach bigger markets," Abigaba shares.

Indigenous Nations across Turtle Island are streng Indigenous Nations across Turtle Island are strengthening holistic health through community-driven solutions, yet Type-1 and Type-2 Diabetes remain a critical challenge. Colonial policies and food insecurity have contributed to disproportionate diabetes rates among Indigenous Peoples, leading to more severe health outcomes.

In response, with funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) @healthycdns, and as one of seven finalists in the Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Challenge, CFTC is working alongside six Indigenous communities to increase access to fresh, nutrient-dense food through establishing 365-day greenhouses. With the support of donors, initiatives like food forests and land-based nutrition programs are growing stronger.

Water is life. It nourishes communities, keeps fam Water is life. It nourishes communities, keeps families healthy, and supports children to learn and grow. While many communities around the world still face challenges in accessing clean water and safe sanitation, progress is happening. And thanks to you, that progress is accelerating!

In Uganda, Raihana’s school had no usable girl’s latrine, putting students at risk of illness and causing many to miss school. Thanks to CFTC supporters, our community partner HUYSLINCI built a new latrine, giving girls privacy, safety, and the ability to focus on their education.

“I used to be fearful to visit the latrine, and many of my friends fell ill. Now, I’m happy my privacy and hygiene are guaranteed,” Raihana says.

On #WorldWaterDay, give a #BestGiftEver gift of clean drinking water, hygiene supplies, or a latrine, to bring safe and clean water to communities. https://bit.ly/4bJRPS4
Racism fuels inequality and food insecurity, creat Racism fuels inequality and food insecurity, creating barriers that no one should have to face. A just and nourished world is only possible when these barriers are broken down.

Across communities, people are challenging the systems that create injustice and working toward a future where food and nourishment are human rights. In Ethiopia, communities are coming together to challenge oppressive gender norms, cultural practices, and traditions to change minds and empower women and girls within community. By listening, learning, and taking action together, we can create lasting change.

Let’s grow toward a world where every person is valued, included, and able to thrive. #InternationalDayForTheEliminationOfRacism

Access to nutritious food is essential for student Access to nutritious food is essential for student well-being and success. At Elsipogtog School, Registered Dietitian Christina Metcalf ensures that meals are balanced, diverse, and culturally appropriate.

With rising food costs, she carefully plans menus featuring fruits, vegetables, and traditional Indigenous foods like moose. “Many students rely on the food they get at school, so we make sure meals are nutritious and reflect our culture,” she explains.

She also works to reduce waste, directing surplus food to the community shelter and families in need. Looking ahead, Christina hopes to revive the school garden to “get the kids excited again about the process of producing their own food.”

Christina’s work excites students like Scarlette, who recognizes how important these programs are. Since her parents are often far away for work, Scarlette relies on the daily free breakfast program. Christina’s also inspired Scarlette and her friends on the school council to start a snack swap initiative to ensure all students have a snack to eat.

Your support helps schools like Christina’s and Scarlette’s run effective, nutritious, and culturally appropriate school nutrition programs to ensure that both bodies and minds are nourished.

With proper training and support, women can transf With proper training and support, women can transform their families’ futures through their agribusinesses. Through the SHINE Project, funded in part by the @global.affairs.canada and CFTC supporters, women farmers like Vida gained the skills needed to take charge of their farm’s business. Encouraged by her husband Robert, after undergoing gender equality training, Vida joined a business incubation program, allowing them to sell produce directly and increase their income. Their success even led to investing in a tricycle for farm transport and extra earnings.

Vida’s accomplishments are a testament to the power that gender equal livelihoods can have on communities. When asked how she felt about her newfound business, she told us, “I was taught as a child that men were the sole providers for families, that men were the ones to provide food and women stayed at home. Women shouldn’t be consulted. But now, since gender quality training, it’s clear to us that husbands and wives need to support each other’s work to make their homes grow well.”

Your support helps women like Vida secure their families’ futures through successful livelihoods. Support women's livelihoods today with a #BestGiftEver gift. Click the link in our bio to give today.
